A New Identity to Scale with Distribution

After nearly eight years in business, Florida’s Bangin’ Banjo Brewing Company locked its sights on distribution for the first time.

Newfound aspirations provided the perfect springboard to holistically re-evaluate their identity from the most foundational level – their name. Their ultimate goal was to build a compelling brand system that could help them reach new heights.

Strummin’ the Last Chord

Some soul-searching (and and extensive market research) helped us conclude it was time to say goodbye to Bangin’ Banjo – a name that no longer struck a chord with the team.

Survey respondents overwhelmingly voiced a preference for names that evoke a local flare. Simple solutions are undefeated, so we established a new identity borrowed from the name of the city they call home. It’s not clever or witty. It’s just right.

That being said, it can be hard for brand loyalists to say “goodbye” to a name they’ve grown to love, so we decided to give the ole banjo a proper send-off. We built an interactive web experience allowing users to select from a variety of ways to bid adieu before revealing the new look.

Cold Cans, Warm Welcomes

The new Pompano Beach Brewing Co. brand was designed to be a true representation of the brewery’s hometown on the east coast of Florida. We created a unique logomark that reflected the brewery’s two primary focuses: the quality of their beer and Pompano Beach. To further represent their location, we overhauled their color palette to represent the greens and blues of the Atlantic ocean, along with a pop of Florida sunshine. This system was built out across print materials, tap handles, crowlers, cornhole boards, and more.

When approaching packaging, it was important to remember that this new brand was meant to be a destination — a true postcard of Pompano Beach. The core can designs needed a system that could tell the proper story of the beer inside.

To achieve this, we developed a label structure that would house a custom pattern that would change with each core beer, all centered around the new Pompano Beach logo mark.

merch N’ Stuff

The Pompano Beach team wanted to make sure their brand was translated to merchandise that intentionally fit the Florida lifestyle. We built out a suite of apparel with their brand materials, including tees, tanks, snapbacks, dad hats, and polos. We also applied their brand to stickers and enamel pins to make it easy to represent Pompano Beach from anywhere.
