1. Cats or Dogs?
I love all of earth’s creatures, but I’m obsessed with cats. My cat, Olive (aka, Goob) is my best friend and I’m pretty sure she knows the answers to some of life’s biggest questions. On any given day, you’ll find us deep in conversation about the origins of our existence or if there is intelligent life on other planets. I believe aliens exist, but she’s pretty skeptical about that. She has yet to respond to any of my questions or statements, but I think she’s just quiet…
2. What’s the most marvelous thing you have ever seen with your own eyes?
Iceland — more specifically the Northern Lights. I had chills watching them dance across the sky, but it was also really cold that night.
3. Have you ever seen insanity where you later saw creativity?
I don’t know. Have you?
4. How would you describe yourself in 5 words?
I am inquisitive, chatty, goofy, sweet and passionate.
5. Why does pizza come in a square box?
Pizza is delivered in a square box because man is inherently lazy.
6. What is your biggest design inspiration?
We’re lucky if I can draw a stick figure, but if I were a designer, I would certainly gain inspiration from nature.
7. How does it feel to be photographed?
I dwell within a small population of humans that don’t mind being photographed. It’s rather enjoyable, I’d say.
Were you looking for an answer like this?
“It makes me feel naked — vulnerable almost. When I’m in front of the camera, it’s almost as if I am connecting with the photographer on a metaphysical level that transcends time and space. We are connected by this intimate and fleeting moment that can never be captured again.” *laden with sarcasm*
8. What is the one thing you need to do next?
I need to bring my dreams to fruition.
9. What are you thankful for, this moment?
There is so much to be thankful for! I am blessed to live in a beautiful country, surrounded by family and friends. My world is enchanted and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
10. What in your life exhilarates you? Do you do enough of it?
Running, poetry, reading and travel are four things that bring me the most satisfaction (outside of being with my family – cat included)
Unfortunately, my health at the moment does not permit me to run as regularly as I would like, but on days where I have the energy to go outside and hit the pavement, I am immensely happy. Running isn’t for everyone and not all who enjoy it experience a “runners high”, but I am empowered every time my feet touch the ground. It gives me a chance to connect with my body and appreciate the strength I have.
If I could, I would drop everything right now and buy one of those cat backpacks (Olive deserves to see the world too) and force Ben to live the nomad lifestyle. Traveling is one of my greatest passions, but I wish I could do more of it. I love connecting with other citizens of the world. It always knocks me down a few pegs and brings me back to reality.
When it comes to reading and poetry — I feel like everyone engages in both. Some people are just more open about the poetry thing than others. That is all.
11. What’s your single greatest moment of personal failure? Looking back on it now, did it make you weaker or stronger? What did you learn?
I didn’t care about my studies when I was in college. My grades suffered because of my lack of commitment to what was most important. I was more interested in having a social life than acquiring valuable skills and maintaining meaningful friendships. It wasn’t until the end of my college career that I started to hone in on my talents and apply myself. If I had utilized the opportunities I was given, my educational experience would have been easier.
Looking back on it, I wouldn’t change a thing. I have regrets like everyone else, but I truly believe everything happens for a reason. It’s important to give ourselves grace because as we go through life, we act based on what we know to be true at the time. I am a better person for the mistakes I’ve made and I’m proud of who I’ve become.
12. Joy is found with simple awareness. What does your joy look like today?
Today’s joy is centered around sunshine, Reverie L 68 and a homemade almond milk latte with cinnamon. I also know there will be immense joy when Ben walks through the door. (Have I made you nauseous yet?)
13. What is the theme song to your day to day life?
We Are Family by Sister Sledge. I just want to be friends with everyone I meet.
14. What is the world ready to discover, accept or embrace now?
The existence of aliens… THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE!!!!
15. Do you think sand is called sand because it’s between sea and land?
Sure. Why not?
16. When was the last time you lost track of time?
My mother’s garden is one of the most tranquil places on earth. Her talents as a gardener continue to amaze with each passing year. Some of my fondest memories are centered around that beautiful plot of land, surrounded by my family. I could sit there for hours and listen to the birds chirping while watching my nieces play in the grass. When I’m there, time doesn’t exist.
17. If you woke up tomorrow as an animal, what would you be?
A kangaroo (uncommonly known fact: kangaroos are my favorite animal next to cats). I seem like I’m sweet and innocent, but if you cross me, I will kick you. I’m sure you’ve heard a lot of people say this, but I mean it. Just ask Ben.
18. If you were guaranteed the correct answer to one question, what would you ask?
What is the meaning of life?
19. Where is your happy place?
Ben and Olive
20. What made you choose Top Hat?
I had no choice.
