Pittsburgh Love

Why We Love Coffee Buddha

There are countless coffee shops in the Greater Pittsburgh area. Here's why Coffee Buddha—in the North Hills—tops our list.

Life is all about balance—the Yin and the Yang of everything.  So, if you’ve found yourself in the market for some zen, all the while needing a jolt of energy, Coffee Buddha is worth a visit. A quirky atmosphere and to-die-for coffee makes this Pittsburgh coffee shop a one of a kind experience that you just can’t find anywhere else.

Upon walking into the building, you are immediately introduced to good karma. It could be the Asian influenced decor, easy going atmosphere or friendly staff, but we think it’s just the general good spirit of “The Coffee Buddha.” It’s safe to say there isn’t another coffee shop in the Pittsburgh area with the same vibe.

Lots of Work Space

What’s one of the most frustrating parts of the “coffee shop” experience? Trying to find a place to set you stuff down and work. For most coffee shops, space is at a premium. Most of the times at the best you find that lone table too close to the bathroom for comfort.

Coffee Buddha is a coffee house, literally. Coffee Buddha is a renovated Perrysville house in the main part of town. In addition to first-level places to chill—like the coffee bar—there’s an entire upstairs of spacious rooms to park yourself for a while to get some work done.

Good Eats

While the menu is limited to mostly baked goods and the like, food trucks do frequent the premises on a regular basis.

A weekly schedule can be found on their Facebook page. If you’re worried about grabbing a bite to eat on the way to your next location, have no fear, Coffee Buddha can hook you up with several good eats.

Starbucks/Panera Goer? Support Local and Try Craft Coffee

There’s something to be said about supporting local businesses.

If you’re a frequenter of Starbucks or Panera, give craft coffee a shot. If you’ve never had craft coffee, your mind is about to be blown by the quality of fresh-roasted, fresh-ground beans.

No offense to Starbucks—they run their operation well—but they extra-roast their beans to insure those beans have a longer shelf life. By the time those beans reach a Starbucks location, and are poured into your cup, they’re not anywhere near fresh.

Sourcing their coffee beans from local Pittsburgh roasters like Commonplace Coffee, Coffee Buddha serves the freshest coffee in the land.

They Won’t Hold Their Nose up at You

You might be thinking at this point, “They might be coffee snobs that will hold their noses up at me if I order something with some flavor pumps in it.”

Quite the contrary. Coffee Buddha offers high-quality coffees for the connoisseur, but they also produce in-house made syrups to make drinks you will be familiar with (like pumpkin lattes and the like). Besides that, there’s a variety of drinks that might appeal to you.

The main mission is to be able to offer something for everyone.

Yinzer Tips

  • Try the iced Matcha latte with whole milk. If you’re a tea lover, you’ll be head over heels. If you’re a coffee lover, this will be a great new drink to try.
  • If you plan on staying a while, be sure to ask for the Wifi password while you’re ordering. The password is constantly changing.
